Vernon Hills High School is located approx. 40 miles north of Chicago in Lake County. COmmunity High School District 128 serves the communities of Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mettawa, Rondout and Vernon Hills, as well as surrounding unincorporated areas.

VHHS, along with Libertyville High School, is one of two, four year comprehensive high school in Community High School District 128. District 128 received many honors during the 2012-2013 school year, including the SchoolSearch Bright A+ Award of Excellence, the SchoolMatch Annual School System What Parents Want Award, and being named to Newsweek Magazines "America's Best High Schools" and the U.S. News & World Report annual ranking of the Best American High Schools.

VHHS has an enrollment of 1,326 and 119 certified faculty, of which 104 hold a master degree or beyond. Two teachers are National Board Certified Teachers.
