Varsity Coaches

Coach Tim Hurst - tim.hurst@ms.com
Coach Hurst grew up in Valley Forge, PA and started playing lacrosse when he was 12 years old. He attended Conestoga High School where he played on the varsity team all four years. During his junior and senior years, Tim became a face-off specialist with the help of Head Coach Dave Trainer and the coaches at the Hobart Lacrosse Camp. After playing club ball at PSU, Tim returned to Conestoga to become an assistant varsity coach and to help run the Tredyffrin/Easttwom Lacrosse League, a development program with 200 boys between the ages of 10 and 13. After a multi-year hiatus, Tim began coaching at Neuqua Valley High School in 2005. He took over as the Head Varsity Men's Lacrosse Coach at NVHS in 2006, when the team won the conference championship and advanced to the third round of the state playoffs. He remained there through 2007 season. Coach Hurst's dedication to the development leagues continues with his involvement in Lacrosse America and MidWest Lacrosse.

Coach Jonathon Judy
Jonathon Judy, a.k.a. JJ, started playing Lacrosse in Columbus, OH in the fifth grade. In 2003 he moved to Chicago where he attended NVHS and was a four-year varsity lettermen. In 2007, while played on Team Illinois, he was named an All Star at the Notre Dame tournament. He was also invited to the Chicago Machine Invitational tournament where he earned All Star honors. These exposures led to J's signing with Mercyhurst Junior College where he earned recognition by the NJCAA as an All Region Mid-fielder. He currently atttends C.O.D. in the Fire Science program and intends to pursue a career as a firefighter.

JV Coaches

Coach Dave Bassett - coach.bassett@att.net
Coach Bassett has been coaching youth sports for over twenty years. He grew up in New York City area and he attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. After college he played for a local men's club in Harriburg, PA and later for a club in Miami, FL. Coach Bassett has run the Varsity, JV, and Frosh at Naperville Central and Waubonsie Valley. He is also coaching during the off-season Player's Indoor and Lacrosse America. Coach has completed numerous training and coaching certification courses and is ACEP certified.
Coach Bassett believes that coaching is all about helping the younger, less experienced develop the mental and physical skills to accomplish their personal goals. He is committed to teaching the players how to unselfishly integrate themselves into the team in order to bring out the best in the other players. Hard work, fundamental skills, mental and physical preparation, and a relentless winning attitude are integral parts of his coaching philosophy.


Freshman Coaches

Coach Doug Tillett - doug.tillett@chi.frb.org
Coach Tillett is in his fourth year with the Benet Freshman Program. He grew up in Maryland and played in programs at Towson Middle School and Dulaney High School in suburban Baltimore. After graduating from Syracuse University (BS, '74) and the University of Pennsylvania (MGA, '87) he played for the several lacrosse clubs in the Mid-Atlantic area. Over the past 30 years he has coached in youth and college programs in Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He moved to Illinois over 6 years ago where he began coaching in the Lacrosse America Program.

Coach Michael Byrne - michaeltbyrne@aol.com
Coach Byrne is in his third year with the Benet Freshman Program. Coach Byrne started his lacrosse career with the University of Illinois club team playing for two years in the "Wooden Stick Era". Coach Byrne has been a youth coach for 10 years in multiple sports.
School History:
Benet Academy traces its history from the establishment of St. Joseph Bohemian Orphanage in Lisle in 1899. As the school adapted over time, additional buildings and land were added to the campus. Athletic fields, a gymnasium and a cemetery were added between 1914 and 1950. Since then, St. Thomas Hall, St. Martin Hall, a new gymnasium and St. Daniel Hall were added

· The Academy's 112 year history reflects the education of young men at St. Procopius Academy and young women at Sacred Heart Academy.

· The two Academies operated separately until they were jointly staffed in 1967 by the Benedictines of St. Procopius Abbey and Sacred Heart Monastery.

· The co-educational, Benedictine school was then named Benet Academy

Benet Academy is a four year, college preparatory, co-educational, Catholic high school located in Lisle, IL. Benet draws students from DuPage, Kane, Will and Cook counties. Explore the following to find out more:
