Chicago Machine Fundraiser for High School Teams

Coaches and Parents,

The Chicago Machine is pleased to work alongside Illinois High School teams to help raise money for their programs. The fundraiser not only helps raise money for the program, but also gives teams the opportunity to meet and interact with professional Chicago Machine players of the Major League Lacrosse (MLL).

The fundraiser involves selling Machine tickets; 50% of every ticket sold will go back to your program. The top 2 teams with the most tickets sold, get to play an intra-squad game at Toyota Park before a Machine Game. There are also several individual incentives that range from receiving a Machine mini stick, winning a helmet, to warming up with the Machine before a home game. If you are interested in learning more about this fundraiser, please contact Jaime Glenn at 312-255-1522.

Also, don't forget about the #5 Notre Dame vs. Denver at Toyota Park on April 5th. It is a game you don't want to miss!

New IHSLA Website Now Online

The new IHSLA website is now online and is awaiting your feedback. Suggestions from the February IHSLA meeting were incorporated over the last two weeks. The site has been fully debugged and made ready for deployment during the week of Feb 24, 2008. Security features were added that limit coaches' game editing access to scores only. Game schedules will be managed by Linda Bertelson from Lacrosse America. Also, distributable HTML code was added which allows users to put the real-time schedules, team rosters and field locations on their own websites. Finally, a spreadsheet-like page was incorporated into the roster editing module to allow coaches to quickly update player stats.

Lane Tech Takes Centerstage

The Lane Tech stadium will take centerstage in the upcoming football movie, "The Express". Many of the stadium scenes in the movie were filmed on location at Lane Tech this spring. "The Express" is the life story of Ernie Davis, a Syracuse University football player who led the Orange to the school's only national championship in 1959. He became the first African American to win the Heisman Trophy, in 1961. Despite being the first player taken in the 1962 NFL draft, Davis never played a single game of professional football. He died of leukemia in 1963, at the age of 23. "The Express", starring Rob Brown as Ernie Davis and Dennis Quaid as coach Rob Schwartzwalder, will be released in theaters nationally on Oct. 10, 2008.

Glenview North Expands Lacrosse Program

Glenview North announced today that the school will be transitioning their club-status lacrosse program to varsity status. The school district will provide jerseys, body armor, and will hire and pay salaries to the coaching staff. Parents will continue to contribute to helmets and gloves for the players. Varsity status was conferred because the Glenview North administration recognized the popularity of the sport, both from the perspective of the players and the fans.
